Figuring out what you truly need during your recovery can seem daunting. The following is my list of essentials for a comfortable and successful recovery at home.
Making “Eating” Easy
An immersion blender
Baby spoons
Plastic cups
A small mirror — this is helpful for getting food and drink into your mouth, as you’ll be completely numb.
Protein supplement; this is very personal. I like flavorless supplements like this or this.
Staying Comfortable
Alba Unpetroleum Jelly (I used instead of Aquaphor)
Soft washcloths
Hydrogen peroxide
Wedge pillow set
Mini whiteboard and dry erase markers
Button and zip front tops
Humidifier or diffuser
Jaw bra with extra hot/cold packs
Comfortable but stable slip-on shoes (Crocs would be an amazing choice here)
Rolling cart to keep it all organized
Hygiene
Toddler-sized toothbrushes
Extra syringes
Splurges
Adjustable base bed; this will replace the wedge pillow setup.
Indoor cardio machine (treadmill, reclining bike, or elliptical); for light exercise with a low risk of tripping on the sidewalk.
Vitamix blender; I got this one before my third surgery and it’s been a game changer.
High quality skincare. Surgery takes a toll on your skin; I broke out with major acne for months afterward.
